Mobile Engine Repair in Lakeland, FL

The engine shakes at a stoplight and the check engine light comes on. Maybe it starts hard, or the idle sags and the car almost dies when the air conditioning kicks in. We drive to you in Lakeland, pull the codes and test the parts those codes point at. Most of it gets done in your driveway or the lot where you park at work.

More Details

An engine code is a starting point, not an answer. A misfire code on cylinder one tells you which cylinder quit. It does not tell you whether the coil, the plug, the injector or a burnt valve caused it, so we test before we replace anything. We bring a scan tool, a compression tester and the common ignition and sensor parts, which is why a lot of misfires get fixed on the first visit. Overheating gets handled differently: if the gauge climbed and you kept driving, we check for exhaust gas in the coolant before anyone quotes a water pump. Where the car quit matters too, because fog off the Green Swamp settles over the Polk County stretch of I-4, and the state runs cameras, vehicle detectors and message signs on that road because of the pileups that fog has caused. A stalled car there is a visibility problem before it is a mechanical one. If that is where you are sitting, say so when you call.

Frequently Asked Questions About Engine Repair in Lakeland

Can you actually fix an engine at my house? +

Most engine work is bolt-on: coils, plugs, injectors, sensors, gaskets, water pumps and belts. All of that gets done at your home or your workplace. A rebuild or a cracked block needs a shop with a lift and a hoist, and we will tell you straight if that is what you are looking at.

The check engine light is on but the car drives fine. Can it wait? +

A steady light usually can wait a few days, and we can scan it and tell you what it is. A flashing light cannot. Flashing means raw fuel is going into the catalytic converter, and driving on it turns a coil replacement into a converter replacement.

My car overheated and I pulled over. What should I do? +

Shut it off and leave it off. Restarting a hot engine to get it home is what warps heads. We come to the car, let it cool, pressure test the cooling system and check whether combustion gas is getting into the coolant before we quote a repair.

What does the diagnosis cost? +

We tell you the diagnostic charge before anyone drives out, so there is no surprise when we arrive. After we test it you get the repair price, and nothing gets fixed until you say yes.
